The Prix Galien Africa aims to reward researchers, pharmaceutical institutions and industries in the public or private sector that have developed initiatives, services, pharmaceutical, biotechnological, herbal medicine, diagnostic products and medical devices recently introduced to the African market.

The Jury may award four prizes:

  • the best pharmaceutical product
  • the best traditherapy product
  • the best biotechnology product
  • the best medical technology (medical device, diagnostic device).

The prizes will be awarded for products, services and initiatives that are highly convincing or promising, in the field of innovative discoveries and therapies at the service of humanity. The Prix Galien Africa rewards pharmaceutical sciences that improve the human condition, mainly on the basis of two criteria:

  • Innovation and/or discovery
  • Impact on the African continent.

For each of these products and services, the Marketing Authorization (MA) must have been issued by at least one African pharmaceutical regulatory authority within a period of no more than five years as of December 31 of the competition year.

The Galien Foundation has been organizing since 2009 a Scientific Forum, in the United States, on the sidelines of the Prix Galien International awarded for 50 years and which positions itself as the Nobel Prize in pharmaceutical innovation. Its initiator, the late Mr. Elie Wiesel, Nobel Peace Prize, had expressed the wish to see these events take place in Africa.

Thus, since 2018, the Galien Africa Forum is held annually, in Dakar (Senegal), under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Macky SALL, President of the Republic of Senegal.

The Galien Forum Africa provides a platform for high-level scientific exchange on issues of common interest including the priorities of our continent for Africans and by Africans. It brings together Nobel Prize winners, political leaders, experts, researchers, students, doctors, socio-anthropologists, biologists, innovators, investors, international organisations, civil society, the private sector, etc.

The Prix Galien Africa will be awarded for the first time in December 2021, on the sidelines of the Forum Galien Africa.

Call for applications closes Wednesday 30 June 2021.
